Ruins of the Zavial Fort

Situated on the top of the cliff in between the beautiful Ingrina and Zavial beaches, these are the Ruins of a military Fort built in the 18th century, as a replacement of a previous one built close by dedicated to Saint Ignacio, destroyed by the big earthquake of 1755.

The Fort, or artillery emplacement, would have been part of a set of military emplacements that integrated the defence of the Lagos coastline, along with the Meia Praia Fort.

Nowadays the fort is abandoned, destroyed since the Peninsular Wars of the 19th century.
